Mebendazole

Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic agent from the benzimidazole class, originally developed for the treatment of intestinal worm infections. It works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules, thereby disrupting cellular structure and glucose uptake in helminths. This leads to energy depletion, immobilization, and eventual death of the parasite. Mebendazole is widely used to treat infections caused by pinworms, whipworms, hookworms, and roundworms. Its high efficacy, low systemic absorption, and favorable safety profile have made it a staple in both individual therapy and community-wide deworming programs.
